STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING

 

At the beginning of our U12-16s sessions we provide 30 minutes of strength and conditioning, an element of a players’ development we see as integral. This part of the session is delivered by Andy Hyde from Aesthetic Athletes our partners on players’ physical development.

WHO WE COACH

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FUTURE ATHLETE

  • Displays a desire to work hard and succeed

  • Understands their own physical strengths and areas for development

  • Demonstrates excellent aerobic and anaerobic capacity throughout the game

  • Shows speed endurance throughout the game

  • Displays explosive acceleration and deceleration in and out of possession

  • Possesses upper body strength for contact situations, with spring and timing to contest aerial challenges

WHAT WE COACH

SPEED AND AGILITY

  • Have a higher top speed than your opponent

  • Attain top speed before your opponent

  • Change direction quicker than your opponent

STRENGTH AND POWER

  • Learn fundamental movement patterns for gym and pitch work

  • Become physically dominant in any position

  • Outjump opponents in aerial duels

PREHAB AND CONDITIONING

  • Improve and maintain joint and muscle flexibility and strength

  • Develop an understanding of how to help prevention of injury

  • Develop greater physical output, which can be maintained for longer

HOW WE COACH

  • Games based approach with a fun, competitive edge

  • Match scenarios which prepare the players for all eventualities

  • Weekly tasks and discussions around their physical development

  • Individual feedback and programs specific to the players’ area of development with a strength and conditioning coach

  • Physical testing 3 times throughout the season to establish players’ level and their development
